BBC Encounters A Concert Report from London

On October 24 2000 the BBC Concert Orchestra gave a concert showcasing the talents of one of the great saxophonists of our time, John Harle. This was the first of a series of concerts running under the title “Revelations”. These concerts, becoming a regular series on London’s South Bank, feature the best of British instrumental soloists performing a contemporary concerto by a British composer. They started with the noted British TV composer Christopher Gunning. The concerto was framed with a programme of assorted film score suites. An emphasis was put on Bernard Herrmann with the North by Northwest Overture, the Taxi Driver suite and an excerpt from the Psycho suite. The BBC Concert Orchestra provided members of the Herrmann Society with reduced rates for the concert.

Thanks for making it a very special occasion to: the BBC Concert Orchestra (especially Sarah Biggs & Jo Johnson), Robert Ziegler, John Harle, Howard Blake, Christopher Gunning, Ben Bartlett, Maggie Rodford, Tommy Pearson, James Cox, Tobias van de Locht, and all I’ve forgotten.
